Why I Love the Google Adsense Revenue Model

I want to start with a quick question: what is the first thing you do in the morning when you wake up? Most of us are going to say the exact same thing—we grab our phones.

Maybe yours looks different than mine. Mine has a picture of my wife eating a hamburger on it; she loves that picture. But the point is, is that just like you, I grab my phone.

It’s a bad habit, yet I grab my phone and I check it every morning. However, when I do it, I’m doing it for a different reason than most people. Some people are checking emails or social media; and yes, I do that too. But the first thing I usually do is go to the Google AdSense app.

I check how much I made while I was sleeping. This is legitimate, this isn’t a scam. This is a real thing.

I have websites that make me money while I sleep.

It’s pretty awesome. For this reason alone, display ads are a pretty amazing way to monetize any website that’s out there.

For the last six years, I have been working very diligently with display ads. Contrary to what you may hear, they are actually a very good business model.

In this post, I’m going to explain eight different reasons why I love Google AdSense and the display ads business model as a whole.

UPDATE: If you have over 10,000 pageviews monthly, Ezoic is BY FAR the best option. At this point, ALL of my websites are on Ezoic as it’s proven to earn more money than both Adsense and

1) Passive

The first reason why I love the Google AdSense display ad model and display ads is because it’s a very passive form of generating revenue.

What do I mean by that? Well, to get started with Google AdSense, all you have to do after you get accepted is copy some code that Google gives to you and paste it into your website. Google will choose all of the ads with all the different partners that they have and that are relevant to your content.

They’ll put them all up on your website, and that’s it. The key is having traffic coming to your website. As long as you have that, you just sit back while people are clicking on those ads.

Whether on accident or on purpose, they click on those ads and, in turn, make you money. It’s a very beautiful thing and it’s extremely passive.

I think the biggest thing that makes it not passive is that you have to have traffic coming to your website. If you want it to keep growing, you have to keep creating content.

From a revenue-generating perspective, passive income is what everyone wants to get. This is a passive income model because you don’t do much. You just put a piece of code on your website and you’re good.

2) Consistent

The second reason why I love the Google AdSense business model—and I think this will surprise some of you—is that it’s actually really consistent. I know what you’re probably thinking—”Well, how can you determine exactly how many people are going to click on ads every day? That’s crazy!”

You can’t, because you don’t control that. But what I’ve found over time is that every single day at noon to one o’clock, my earnings are about the same.

They’ve been a little bit off lately due to everything going on with our economy. But traditionally speaking, those earnings are very close every single day.

Some days are up a little bit, some days are down a little bit. But they’re very close every single day. Which is interesting because I don’t have any control over it.

The fact that it is consistent shows that there is a pattern to the number of people that are actually going to click on an ad and generate revenue for me. That number is fairly high; I’ve done very well by it. I think that’s because I’ve designed a website that takes advantage of this.

Contrary to popular belief, ads are actually consistent. It’s not going to be perfect every day. You’re not going to make the perfect amount every single day and know every day what you’re going to make. It’s not that close.

However, once you have it dialed in, you do have a daily amount of money that you can lean back on and say, “This is what we’re going to make every single day, and we can count on that.”

That’s really important because consistency on a website, from a revenue perspective, is hard to find—especially if you’re selling courses. You may sell five courses in one month and zero courses in the next month. This, on the other hand, is very consistent.

3) Persists Through Tough Times

The third reason why I love Google AdSense and display ads is that they persist through tough times. Right now we’re dealing with some tough times, and I have had a revenue drop of about 50%, which really sucks. It really hurts, but at the end of the day, these ads and this content are still persisting. It’s still delivering.

The difference is that if you were selling a thousand-dollar course or something like that, it may not persist through these tough times because people are saying, “I can’t spend that money right now.” A lot of people are losing their jobs during these hard times.

Although the revenue has dropped (which I mainly attribute to the fact that a lot of companies are cutting back on marketing spend, understandably), I think it’s important to realize that it’s still there, even though there was a big fluctuation in traffic and a big fluctuation in earnings.

I’m now earning 50% less than I was, hopefully temporarily. But it’s really important to know that even though everything else is going on and everyone’s having a hard time, I’m lucky enough to have a business that has my back and is still delivering enough to where I can struggle through this and hopefully come out on top.

4) Little Technical Effort to Implement

The fourth reason why I love it is that there’s little technical effort to implement it. What I mean by that, if you’ve ever put Google AdSense or any of these ad networks on your website, you realize how easy it is.

In the beginning, you may say, “Oh, I can’t do that!” because it does seem technical. It’s really not; I did this when I had no idea about HTML at all. Not that I’m a coder now, but I do know a little bit more than I did then.

It’s really as simple as copying a piece of code that the provider gives to you, pasting it onto your website, and the ads are magically delivered. You don’t have to do anything, which is the beauty of it.

Beginners may say, “Oh, I don’t know how to make revenue.” So what do they do? They go to Google AdSense or maybe another display ad network, they put it onto their website and hope for the best.

The fact that you would be able to do that by knowing very little is so important because it helps you with your mindset to start making revenue and helps you realize that this is possible.

The fact that it is very little technical effort to implement is a big positive, in my opinion. It’s so easy that anybody who starts this can get it done.

5) Improvement of Performance is Possible

Number five is something that I really like about ads. It is that you’re able to improve the performance of them pretty drastically after you’ve set them up.

There are a few different ways to improve performance. First, you can try to do it 100% yourself. Here is a video that explains how I was able to increase the performance of my own websites by about 30%. It gives you all the different tips and everything I’ve learned over the years, so definitely check that out.

If you’re doing it manually, there is a lot of testing that you have to do, but it can be done. Over time, you realize after you test things that you may see a 5% increase here, or an 8% increase there. In aggregate, those really add up.

You can also use a platform like Ezoic. This is a great platform because it takes all the burden off of you to do this stuff. It uses artificial intelligence to find a way to make your ads better, get better click-throughs, and make more money without you having to really focus on it.

In summary, there are two ways you can go: you can either do it manually or automatedly. Both ways will work, to be honest. However, I prefer the manual way because I’m kind of a control-freak.

6) Saves Time Trying to Find Advertisers

This is one that not many people think about, but it’s a good reason to like these display ad networks; it is the fact that it saves you time because you don’t have to find advertisers.

Imagine a world where you have to actually call people at companies to advertise on your website. Remember, at one point in time that was a real thing.

Nowadays, you don’t have to worry about that. The fact that you can literally just take a piece of code, copy and paste it to your website, and have display ads showing everywhere with partners that make sense and are relevant is amazing.

It also saves you a ton of time. Not many people think about that because they take it for granted. Back in the day, that’s just how it was.

You had to call these people and get them to do the ads and figure out the rates. Now, you don’t have to do any of that. It’s great to know that you’re able to put those ads up and they’ll start making money for you.

7) A Good Way to Monetize Any Type of Content

The seventh reason why I love display ads, and Google AdSense specifically, is that it’s a really good way to monetize any type of content on your website.

Specifically, we’ll talk about this with an example. When most people are creating content, they are creating content that is affiliate-related.

They’re doing product reviews, like, “Best X for Y,” or “Best Camera for Vlogging.” They’re relying on affiliate commissions to make money, which is great.

But when you’re creating an informational post, like, “Why Do Dogs Bark?”, how are you going to make affiliate commissions off of that? Are you going to sell dog treats? Maybe you’ll get a few people that will click on it, but not many.

Display ads are really nice because when you have content that is answering a question or purely informational and you don’t know how to make money with it, you can still use display ads to monetize it.

While it may not seem like much—it might be 10 bucks a month for this page—over time, that really adds up. If you have a lot of different pages that you really have no other way of monetizing, you can make quite a bit of money.

I think I’m a perfect example of that. It’s really nice that it’s such a versatile way of making revenue. Everybody who is not using it already definitely should. Just figure it out, mess around with it, and see where it goes.

8) You Can Use Revenue Generated From Ads to Grow Your Website

This is important; the revenue that it brings you gives you a foundation from which to build. One of the biggest things I preach about is that we don’t have enough time.

One of the ways to grow a business is to outsource content to another writer and then maybe be the editor yourself. The point is, you’re trying to buy other people’s time.

It’s really hard to do that in the beginning because you don’t want to invest too much of your own money into the business.

You’re hesitant, and you may say, “It’s not making much money. I’m scared to not make money. I’m scared to invest money into it because if I do, then it could be a loss. I don’t really know if it’s an investment, it’s more of an expense.” The point is, you get nervous about it.

Let’s say you make 50 bucks a month from a website. It is very easy to say, “Okay, I’m not going to take that 50 bucks a month. I’m just going to reinvest it into the website.” Ads allow you to do that—they give you that foundation on which you can build.

Once you have that foundation from the ads, you can build more and more content. Then you can get more specific with what you’re trying to do to earn money on the website.

You can do more affiliate stuff. You could do some membership stuff. You could do things to try to bring in revenue from other channels. But to have that foundation and to have that initial success with ads, I think, is priceless.

Having that is so important to have success with a website because if you have to wait until you’re selling courses, it can take a long time.

When you have that foundation, you have that revenue base. It really helps to expand the website, outsource with other people, and make your website bigger. That’s really what display ads will get you.

So that’s it, you guys. That is why I love the Google AdSense business model and the display ads model in general.

There are a lot of positives to it; you’ll hear some negatives, too, but there are many positives. Let me know what you think. If you can, please take a second to comment below, send me any questions that you may have, or your experience with display ads.
